Wednesday December 13
Lunch Club- Crisp, Golden Potato Pancakes$25.00
Latkes for Lunch!
The first night of Hanukkah starts this year on December 12. But Hanukkah lasts for 8 nights, so there’s still plenty of time to celebrate with a delicious lunch and demo taught by Tom’s cookbook coauthor. Shelley’s recipe is based on her own Grandma Pearl’s classic potato pancakes- no frills- just grated potato, onion, egg, and a little matzo meal, all mixed together then browned in oil. These latkes are little golden pillows of potato-y goodness surrounded by crisp, lacy edges.
You’ll start lunch with an appetizer of traditional Jewish style chopped liver made with chicken livers, fried onions, chopped hard boiled eggs, and schmaltz and served with rye toasts and pickled red onions (recipes adapted from from the Mile End Cookbook, authored by the owners of the terrific Mile End Jewish deli style restaurants in Brooklyn and Manhattan.)
Shelley will also show you how to make the best-loved cookie in the Jewish playbook- the delicious, flaky, nut and jam filled rugelach which are often served at this holiday.
Everyone loves potato pancakes! This is an equal opportunity lunch club, so whatever creed or religion you do or don’t practice, come join us for a festive latkes lunch!
Tip: Bringing a friend or relative to this class makes a lovely Hanukkah gift!
