Tiki Culture Makes a Comeback

The Hot Stove Society welcomes Angela Buck-Hatter as instructor for this cocktail class.  Angela, with 15+ years of bartending experience and over 20 years in the restaurant industry is also BarSmarts Advanced Certified and took her exam from the one and only David Wondrich, the celebrated cocktail historian and author.

What do you think of when you hear the word Tiki?  Cocktails mixed from tropical fruit juices and delicious rums, kitschy décor, and super tasty Island foods, right?

After much research and practice, Angela came up with this menu of Tiki cocktails based on the long popularity, new interest, and/or confusion on the ‘proper’ presentation of each. These are all classic Tiki recipes, and each has been credited on the cocktail menu below to those who created or popularized the drink.

Angela will demo each cocktail, and you’ll enjoy a small pour of each.  You’ll also enjoy a delightful pupu platter prepared by the Hot Stove Team.

  • Painkiller- from Daphne Henderson & Charles Tobias Soggy Dollar Bar circa 1970’s (welcome drink in slushy form!)
  • Hinky Dinks Fizz- Trader Vic’s circa 1984, created for the 50th anniversary and a hat tip to their Rum Keg
  • Classic Mai Tai- Trader Vic’s circa 1944
  • Nui Nui- Don Beachcomber circa 1937

Pupu Platter:

  • Dungeness Crab and Spicy Onion Rangoon
  • Coconut Prawn, Sweet Chili 
  • Vegetable Eggroll with Sweet & Sour
  • Twice Fried Chicken Wing, Fish and Caramel Sauce
  • Beef Teriyaki Skewer, Soy, Scallions, Sesame
