Hot Stove Society welcomes Angela Buck-Hatter as instructor for this cocktail class.  Angela, with 15+ years of bartending experience and over 20 years in the restaurant industry is also BarSmarts Advanced Certified and took her exam from the one and only David Wondrich, the celebrated cocktail historian and author.

Angela has been doing some research by studying the birth of the American cocktail from the mid to late 1800’s.  She’s going to show you three classic American cocktails that are as delicious today as they were in their historic heyday.

We’ll welcome you an array of bar snacks such as marinated olives, spiced nuts, and cheese straws.

Angela will demo each cocktail, and you’ll enjoy a small pour of each. As she demos, she’ll give you a run down on the fascinating history of each drink.  We’ll also pair each cocktail with a compatible taste from a menu prepared by the Hot Stove Team.

Cocktail Menu (demo)

  • The Old Fashioned is one of the oldest mixed drinks, one of the simplest and most delicious, and it never goes out of style. It is made by muddling sugar with bitters and adding whiskey and a twist of lemon or orange.
  • A Sherry Cobbler is a drink made from sherry, sugar, and citrus, shaken and poured over crushed ice.  Popular in the 1840’s, the Cobbler has lately been making a comeback in trendy bars.
  • The Martinez, made with gin and vermouth and served up, has been called the missing link between the Manhattan and the Martini.

  • To pair with the Sherry Cobbler: Walla Walla Onion, Goat Cheese and Prosciutto Tart
