Taste of the Caribbean

Taste of the Caribbean

Ready for some sunshine?  Us too.  Chef Ariamny Salvador will be bringing some sunshine and spice to Hot Stove during this class on her favorite Caribbean dishes.  Chef Ariammy, a pastry chef at Starbucks, was born and raised in the Dominican Republic and has travelled all over the Caribbean Islands.  Ari will share photos, maps, and tales of the Caribbean and will demo special dishes from all over the islands.

You’ll start the class with a rum cocktail and Bacalao Fritters she enjoyed from her last trip to Trinidad & Tobago.  Some of the recipes that Ari will be cooking from are family recipes and others have been collected from her travels to the Caribbean.  Ari will share a favorite dish from her mother’s kitchen and the dish her grandmother would make for special occasions—Locrio (a spiced rice and chicken dish, like Arroz con Pollo) and Mofongo (plantains with an aromatic garlic sauce).

You will be greeted with a glass of Cuba Libra.

Demo Only Menu:

  • Bacalao Fritters with Bayou Seasoning:  fried cod fritters from Trinidad & Tobago
  • Locrio Dominicano:  A baked rice and chicken dish (Ari’s favorite recipe from her mom) from the Republica Dominicana
  • Mango Slaw: a tart, citrusy salad with mango and cabbage
  • Mofongo served with Camarones al Ajillo from the Republica Dominicana: fried plantains with garlic, served with delicious garlicky shrimp.
  • Tres Leches:  Ari’s favorite cake!  She had it for the first time in a hospital cafeteria as a kid and has been on a quest to make it since!
