Drinking, Cursing and Cooking - St Patrick


It’s St Patrick’s Day! Is there anyone you’d rather celebrate with than Chef Matt Fortner? Matt is our Chef of Lola, with many years of chef experience under his belt, and he’s excited to do a deep dive into the deliciousness of Irish traditional cooking with a menu of Shepherd’s Pie, Corned Beef Tongue and Cabbage, Irish Coddle with Soda Bread, Beef Pasties, and Colcannon.

Now that you know what’s cooking, what about the drinking? As you watch Matt demo, you’ll enjoy a substantial taste of each dish, and each will be paired with a small pour of Matt’s choice of booze. To commemorate this special day, Matt is going to show you how to make your own Irish Cream. Then you’ll get to enjoy a “Car Bomb” made with Stout, Whiskey, and the handmade Irish Cream. As for the cursing, we’re going to leave that up to Matt’s spontaneous nature!

What You’ll Learn: (demo only)

  • Shepherd’s Pie- the Irish comfort food classic- a meat pie with mashed potato topping. Matt is going old school and making this with mutton.
  • Corned Beef Tongue with Cabbage- you’ve probably had corned beef and cabbage before, but wait till you taste Matt’s version with an amazing, meltingly tender corned beef tongue!
  • Irish Coddle with Soda Bread- this slow cooked stew of potatoes, sausage, and bacon is another soulful Irish dish- more traditional in Ireland than corned beef and cabbage.
  • Pasties- buttery, flaky pastry hand pies stuffed with a delicious, savory beef filling
  • Colcannon- a luscious mash of potatoes with cabbage or kale, cream, and lots of butter
  • Matt will show you how to make your own Irish cream, and we’ll use it to make a “Car Bomb” for you to enjoy!
