Behind the book: Chinese Soul Food Vol 2- Vegetables!

Participate in the journey to Hsiao-Ching's new book!

Have you ever wondered how a cookbook comes to life? What’s the process for developing and testing recipes? Ever wish you could be a taste-tester? In this special demonstration class, Hsiao-Ching Chou (instructor of our popular Potsticker Love classes) will take you on a journey behind her next cookbook. A sequel to her first book Chinese Soul Food, this volume will focus on vegetable dishes that showcase diverse Asian vegetables, tofu, and other plant-based ingredients. Hsiao-Ching is working on the book now and it will be published by Sasquatch Books in January 2021.

In this class, you will experience a guided tasting of several soy sauces – a key ingredient in Chinese cooking. Then, as Hsiao-Ching shares behind-the-scenes details about what it’s like to write a cookbook, she will also demonstrate dishes that will appear in the book, including several new dishes such as Dry-Fried Brussels Sprouts, Sweet Potatoes with Shallot-Chili Bean Sauce, Chinese Celery Salad, and Vegetable Wonton Soup.  Students will get to be taste-testers and will have a chance to share their impressions. To thank students for participating, Hsiao-Ching will include their names in the acknowledgements of her book.

A glass of wine or beer is included.
